Futures Fund

Launched in 2018 as a subsidiary of Volunteers of America Inc., the Futures Fund builds healthy communities for all by accelerating innovation in housing, health, and human services. We fuel this work through seed funding, strengthening the capacity of our affiliates, and supporting high-impact pilot projects.

Portfolio

The Futures Fund has supported affiliates and external ventures through grants and investments. From 2022 through 2024, the Community Health Incubator accelerated joint ventures by supporting early-stage founders with solutions that improve quality and access for Medicaid and at-risk populations.

Our portfolio reflects affiliates and entrepreneurs who have received grants and investments.

Impact Strategy

Building healthy communities for all by accelerating innovation in housing, health, and human services.

OUR PRIMARY STRATEGIES:

  1. Seed funding to incentivize and de-risk the testing of new ideas
  2. Sourcing and piloting tech-enabled solutions to make VOA’s services more effective and impactful
  3. Peer learning and coaching to build innovation capacity and expand growth opportunities

WE FOCUS OUR RESOURCES ON:

  • Empowering older adults to remain connected and healthy at home
  • Integrated, whole-person health service delivery models
  • AI technology integration for operations and client services

Partnership in Action

The Futures Fund leverages VOA’s national portfolio of assets – People, Places & Programs – to be a testbed of innovation for community health. The National Office provides capital and technical assistance for affiliates to pilot new market solutions that address service gaps, improve operational efficiency, and better support staff and clients.
