Mike King, national president and CEO of Volunteers of America (VOA), will chair the board of directors of LeadingAge, the association of nonprofit providers of aging services, for a two year term effective January 2022. The board transition announcement was announced to association members at the 2021 LeadingAge Annual Meeting & EXPO in Atlanta, GA.
“I am excited to lead the 2022 LeadingAge Board of Directors,” said Mr. King, who succeeds Carol Silver Elliott, president and CEO of Jewish Home Family. “I look forward to continuing my work with the LeadingAge board, members, and staff to advance our mission and continue our important work with the strategic plan for 2021-2023. The challenges our field has faced during COVID-19 continue, and we are ready to help our members through the pandemic and beyond.”
Mr. King brings more than 40 years of top-level leadership experience in the charitable sector to the role, the last 11 as national head of VOA, one of America’s oldest and largest human service nonprofits. During his tenure, Mr. King has been a major advocate on Capitol Hill and throughout Washington, DC, where his work has focused on the preservation of federal funding and other resources that support vulnerable populations. He has served on the LeadingAge Board of Directors since 2015. Additionally, Mr. King sits on the executive committee of Leadership 18, an alliance of the nation’s largest charities and nonprofits.

That knowledge will be valuable as we work to address COVID-related challenges and also make progress on initiatives to ensure a bright future,” said Katie Smith Sloan, president and CEO of LeadingAge. “I look forward to working with him at the start of the new year.”
The association’s 17-member board is composed of leaders at LeadingAge member organizations from around the country. The group provides strategic leadership, policy direction, and fiduciary oversight—shaping LeadingAge’s activities and influencing how the association works to transform aging services.
