Mitzie Smith-Mack serves as Senior Vice President of Legal Affairs – Corporate and Real Estate for Volunteers of America. Smith-Mack has more than 20 years of affordable housing and community development experience. She has represented housing authority clients and for-profit/non-profit developers in HOPE VI grant, mixed finance development, and Rental Assistance Demonstration transactions with a variety of complex funding sources including Community Development Block Grant Funds, Low Income Housing Tax Credits, Historic Tax Credits, New Market Tax Credits, Tax Exempt Bonds, Federal Housing Administration Insured Loans, Housing Production Trust Funds, private debt products and equity investments.
Prior to joining VOA in 2017, Smith-Mack served as an attorney specializing in affordable housing with the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Ballard Spahr LLP, and District of Columbia Housing Authority. She has provided legal assistance on regulatory, transactional, and administrative matters including housing (public housing and housing choice vouchers), ethics, procurement, government contracts, relocation, asset management, energy finance, tax-exempt organizations, and entity structuring related to the development of residential and commercial components within mixed income communities. Smith-Mack earned a bachelor’s of business administration from Howard University and a law degree from the University of Kentucky.
