A history of Reaching and Uplifting.

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas is a faith-based, non-profit organization whose mission is to empower self-reliance and inspire hope. As a church without walls, we do this through personalized housing, ministry, health, and human services that benefit vulnerable individuals, their families, and the community.

Volunteers of America was founded in 1896 by social reformers Ballington and Maud Booth. They envisioned a movement dedicated to “reaching and uplifting” the American people. On behalf of the organization, the Booths pledged to “go wherever we are needed, and do whatever comes to hand.” That declaration continues to guide Volunteers of America’s outreach efforts today.

OUR MINISTRY

Volunteers of America is a Christian church without walls dedicated to serving ALL people. We embrace the fullness of cultural, denominational, ethnic, political, racial, and theological differences. We acknowledge and respect the plurality of sexual and gender identity; and the diversity of voices that comes with differences in age, life experiences, and socioeconomic status. We believe every individual is made in the image of God and deserves to be lifted up to the glory of God.

With your support, you have become a part of their stories. You have ensured that the programs and services we provide are innovative, progressive, and healing. With your support, we can open the door to a better life for homeless children, adults, and veterans.
