WHO WE ARE
Volunteers of America Upstate New York empowers people in our community to rise out of poverty, move toward self-reliance, and reach their full potential. We accomplish this by providing long-term solutions to homelessness, poverty, addiction, illiteracy, and criminal behavior through more than 34 essential programs and services. Each year, we serve 6,000 people in three key areas: homelessness prevention, childhood education, and reentry programs.
OUR SERVICES
Homelessness Prevention
VOA offers a continuum of housing programs and services: emergency shelters, supportive housing, housing for seniors, housing for veterans, rapid re-housing, rental assistance, and a residential reentry center. We believe the key to addressing homelessness is providing a continuum of support services (in addition to housing and food) to help people develop more stable, self-sufficient lives.
Childhood Education
Our nationally accredited center has grown into one of the largest providers of early childhood programming within the city of Rochester. The center serves more than 500 children and families on an annual basis and provides such additional support services as a full-time registered nurse, on-site dental care, family development services, on-going parent training, full-day care, and disability supports for children with special needs.
Reentry Programs
Reentry Programs VOA provides reentry programs in Rochester and Binghamton that change lives. Our Residential Reentry Center and Community-Based Residential Programs help adults transition from incarceration and get a fresh start. The services we provide include: housing, specialized case management, employment assistance, and life skills training to help people develop positive, self-reliant lives.
