Help Define Service

For more than a century, Volunteers of America has served the needs of our country's veterans. Today, more than 100 housing and other service programs touch the lives of approximately 27,000 veterans and their families each year.

These critical programs are delivered through a partnership of dedicated professional staff, volunteers and supporters, including The Home Depot Foundation. Since 2011, The Foundation has partnered with Volunteers of America to fund more than 73 housing projects, providing homes for more than 2,500 veterans and their families - including a project that helped Emmitt, the Korean War veteran featured on this page.

Team Depot Helps Refurbish Korean War Veteran Emmitt's Denver Home

Between now and November 11 - Veterans Day - The Home Depot Foundation is raising awareness about efforts to support veterans through its Celebration of Service campaign. Help us kick off our participation in the Celebration of Service Campaign by taking our short "What Service Means to Me" survey. We will share your and other supporters' thoughts throughout the Campaign - our way of celebrating our shared ministry of service to others.

The Home Depot Foundation is also inviting consumers to "celebrate service" on social media using the hashtag #ServiceSelfie. For each #ServiceSelfie shared on Instagram and Twitter during Celebration of Service, The Home Depot Foundation will donate $1 up to $500,000 to organizations that help veterans including Volunteers of America as well as: Meals on Wheels America, Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Student Veterans of America and Team Rubicon.

Throughout October and November, we will be also sharing inspiring stories about how our partnership with The Home Depot Foundation has changed the lives of thousands of veterans who have served our nation so bravely. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook to share our stories with friends, family and colleagues.
