The Home Depot Foundation Pledges More Than $1.75 Million to Volunteers of America to Provide Homes and Services to Veterans
The Home Depot® Foundation has pledged more than $1.75 million in new veteran housing grants to address the critical housing needs of former service members. Since beginning its partnership with Volunteers of America in 2011, the foundation has given nearly $11.3 million to improve housing for homeless veterans and their families.

Volunteers of America awarded its highest honor, the 2016 Ballington and Maud Booth Award, to Juice Plus+ Founder and President Jay Martin in recognition of almost three decades dedicated in support of America’s most vulnerable people.

Major League baseball players will award $2,000 college scholarships to 20 outstanding high school students in recognition of their dedication to community service and tireless efforts to encourage others to get involved with causes they believe in, it was announced today by the Major League Baseball Players Trust. Each scholarship recipient is a member of the Action Team® national youth volunteer program.

Volunteers of America has extended its role as the title sponsor of the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout for at least the next three years. The event this past April marked the first year that Volunteers of America became title sponsor of the event after serving as a presenting sponsor for the first two editions of the tournament.

Volunteers of America Receives International Award for Efforts to Meet the Needs of Older LGBT Clients
Volunteers of America has been honored with a 2015 Excellence in Ageing Services Award from the International Association of Homes and Services for the Ageing in recognition of efforts to tailor senior support services to the needs of LGBT clients.

Also receiving awards are local community volunteers and employees from the Houston area who have distinguished themselves by their dedication and impact in helping those in need. Winners were selected in honor of their exceptional work in support of Volunteers of America’s mission to help the most vulnerable.

Volunteers of America presented Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez with its 2015 Empathy Award in recognition of his efforts to build awareness for the plight of Southern California’s most vulnerable residents. The award honors journalists for outstanding community service and excellence in reporting about social issues.
