It is with great sadness that Volunteers of America announces the death of former national board chair Nancy Gofus. Gofus passed away on Oct. 17 after a brief battle with lung cancer.

Gofus served on the Volunteers of America national board of directors from 2004 – 2013, and was elected chair of the board in 2010. She was a retired senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Business, responsible for marketing strategy, advertising and brand management, and product management for the company, a premier provider of advanced global communications and information technology solutions.

“Nancy was a gifted and dedicated leader for Volunteers of America,” said President and CEO Mike King. “Her marketing acumen coupled with her faith helped transform the organization at a critical time. We have lost her much too soon. May God bless her family at this difficult time.”

After leaving the Volunteers of America national board, Gofus continued to serve the organization as a member of the Volunteers of America Chesapeake board of directors.
