Spirit Magazine is published twice a year by Volunteers of America, a national, nonprofit, faith-based organization dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential.

Spring/Summer 2011 Issue Making the Critical Difference

Communities are as coral reefs, filled with living, interconnected colonies nurturing an incredible range of diversity and supported by a protective framework. By helping people repair their lives, Volunteers of America adds to the pool of independent, productive citizens and strengthens families. And as everyone knows, the cumulative effect of stronger families is stronger communities.

Our network of professional staff and volunteers and the work they do surround our cities and towns with a safety net that adds to their security, civility and stability. But that is only part of the value we bring. In good economic times and bad, the need for the essential services that Volunteers of America provides will only increase. But an uncertain climate of government expenditures and policy shifts, coupled with the critical nature of our services, demands that we look to additional sources of funding if we are to sustain—let alone grow—our work to meet the needs of the most vulnerable citizens. Enriching philanthropy will enable us to think outside the box of what is funded, focusing instead on what is possible.

There is no time like the present to become involved with Volunteers of America.

To learn more about our partnerships, please read the Spring/Summer 2011 issue of Spirit Magazine.
