2012 Easter Service

Volunteers of America held its annual national Easter worship service on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Citizens of Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Compton, Calif.Dozens of Volunteers of America employees, volunteers and clients enjoyed a moving and inspirational service.

2012 Founders Day Service

We celebrated our National Founders’ Day with a worship service on Thursday, March 8. The service was hosted by Volunteers of America Colorado Branch and held at its Mission, our oldest program in Colorado. The Mission is a daytime shelter that provides clients with food, clothing, job training, employment assistance and a safe place for relaxation and refreshment.

Mary Marshall Assisted Living Residence - A Home for Low-Income Seniors with Intellectual Disabilities

Mary Marshall Assisted Living Residence, an innovative community-based facility for seniors with intellectual disabilities and mental illness, recently opened its doors to serve this growing and traditionally underserved group.

Innovative New Senior Living Campus Opening in 2013

The Homestead at Anoka, a senior living campus which is part of our redefined vision of senior services, will open in the spring of 2013. It will feature 127 skilled nursing beds including transitional care, secured memory care and a rehab clinic as well as 27 independent living units with heated underground parking and 32 assisted living units.

Volunteers of America and The Home Depot Foundation - Serving Those Who Served Our Country

With the generous support of The Home Depot Foundation, Volunteers of America is working throughout the United States to build new housing for homeless veterans. Since the beginning of this partnership in April 2011, two of these facilities have finished construction and opened their doors to men and women in need.

2011 Christmas Service

Volunteers of America's 2011 National Christmas Worship Service was recently held at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Penn. The event was broadcast LIVE via the Internet and a recording of it will be available soon.

Frances Hesselbein - A Celebration of Leadership Skills

On December 13th, military brass, close friends and leadership professionals from several industries joined us at the National Press Club in Washington DC for a reception and book signing honoring Frances Hesselbein. Mrs. Hesselbein spoke on her latest book "My Life in Leadership: The Journey and Lessons Learned Along the Way."

Volunteers of America, The Home Depot® Foundation and The Mission Continues Build Veterans Memorial Park in Detroit

More than 200 volunteers from The Home Depot joined Volunteers of America Michigan and The Mission Continues to build a memorial park next to a new shelter for homeless veterans near downtown Detroit.

The Home Depot Foundation Helps Restore a Veterans Resource Center

Over 100 Home Depot associates recently donated their time to paint 48 bedrooms at the Cleveland Veterans Resource Center as part of the Home Depot Foundation's Celebration of Service initiative to provide supplies and volunteers for projects benefiting veterans.

Policy Implications for an Aging Population

We recently convened our third-annual roundtable of experts at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. to discuss the urgent issues facing older Americans today. This year’s discussion focused specifically on the significance of aging women in the home, workplace and broader community, with an in-depth discussion on the public policy and other solutions needed to head off an impending crisis of the nation’s elderly.

Look Up and Hope Learning Forum

On November 4, 2010, we hosted the Look Up and Hope Learning Forum at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis to raise awareness for our national initiative to end intergenerational poverty by serving families affected by incarceration. The event also provided a forum for the release of a new study focused on the experiences of children whose mothers are in prison.
