The Action Team PSA “Are You In?” also aired during the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on FOX on July 12. The PSA was filmed in January 2011 when Carlos Peña (Chicago Cubs), Chris B. Young (Arizona Diamondbacks) and Michael Young (Texas Rangers) were joined on the campus of North Dallas High School by more than 30 Dallas/Ft. Worth Action Team student volunteers and clients from Volunteers of America Texas. During last year’s broadcast, our :30 version of the PSA aired to an estimated 12.1 million people.

Volunteers of America and the Major League Baseball Players Trust teamed up in 2003 to encourage high school students to get involved in their communities and help those in need by establishing the Action Team, a national youth volunteer initiative to inspire and train the next generation of volunteers. Each Action Team is composed of Major League baseball players and area high school students who are led by their Action Team Captains.
As a result of the Action Teams’ efforts, thousands of high school students around the country are learning first-hand that they don’t have to be celebrities to make a difference where they live. Action Team Captains throughout the country plan community service activities and help spread the message about the importance of volunteer work.
The Action Team program continues to add new schools regularly and now enjoys the support of more than 160 high schools in 33 states and Puerto Rico. Since its inception, the Action Team has inspired more than 26,000 high school students to help more than 111,000 people in need.
