Cleveland Action Team Program Assembles Hygiene Kits

On May 3, 2010, Cleveland Indians player Russell Branyan joined high school student leaders from the Cleveland Action Team® youth volunteer program at Lakewood High School to assemble hygiene kits for homeless men and women.

Each month Volunteers of America distributes hundreds of hygiene kits to homeless people through street outreach, emergency shelter and transitional housing programs. The kits include basic hygiene items such as shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste and hand sanitizer. The students exceeded their goal to create 500 hygiene kits at the event. They will continue to collect supplies to create kits year-round with the goal of creating 5,000 kits -- the number of homeless people helped each year by Volunteers of America's street outreach program.
