Seattle Mariners Help Strike Out Hunger
Volunteers of America’s Greenwood Food Bank is one of two food banks operated by the organization in Western Washington. The two food banks combined serve more than 200 families a day with an emergency food supply.
Here is how the Seattle Team Captains created their volunteer project with the Major Leaguers:
Team Captains researched and identified a significant need in the community
Youth selected a Volunteers of America program that is working to address that need
Major League players with the Seattle Action Team were contacted to participate
Television and newspaper media covered the event to help spread the word in the community about the great work the youth are doing to help with an important issue in the community
