Action Team Training Session
Action Team Training Session Draws Captains from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York
The Action Team held its first national training session in New York’s Citi Field, home of the Mets, on Saturday, September 24. More than 50 Action Team Captains and their coordinators and program administrators turned out in person, while a number of Action Team Captains from across the country participated online. The first of what we hope will be many national and regional Action Team events was a fun-filled and fast-paced session created to help Action Team Captains run successful programs in their schools. The session included tips on planning and organizing Action Team activities, as well as public speaking and presentation tips from Avish Parashar, author of Improvise to Success!. During the session, Mets players Miguel Batista, Mike Baxter, Chris Capuano (pictured above) and Mike Nickeas and Philadelphia Phillies players Ben Francisco and Shane Victorino took some time out of their pregame preparations to share their views on community service with the Captains. Victorino, a long-time member of the Action Team, gave a shout-out to his former high school in Maui, before telling the Captains, “You don't need to be a big leaguer to give back. Action Team Captains are role models too. Even if you don't realize it, younger kids are looking up to you to be a leader." From what we witnessed at the training session, truer words have never been spoken.
