Action Team Roster


Action Teams are currently at work in 20 Volunteers of America locations: Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Mobile, New York, Oakland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Portland (ME), San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa, and Washington, DC. The Action Team program continues to add new schools regularly and now enjoys the support of more than 140 high schools nationwide

Players from Major League teams are recruited by the Major League Baseball Players Trust to work with each Action Team.  Among the players currently taking part as leaders of the Action Teams are:

  • Boston Red Sox: Mike Cameron and Jason Varitek 
  • Chicago White Sox: Gordon Beckham, Jake Peavy and AJ Pierzynski
  • Cincinnati Reds: Jay Bruce and Nick Masset
  • Cleveland Indians: Michael Brantley, Matt LaPorta and Joe Smith 
  • Colorado Rockies: Rex Brothers, Dexter Fowler, Ryan Spilborghs, Huston Street, and Eric Young, Jr 
  • Detroit Tigers: Alex Avila, Austin Jackson, and David Pauley
  • Houston Astros: Michael Bourn and Nelson Figueroa
  • Minnesota Twins: Matt Capps, Joe Mauer and Kevin Slowey
  • New York Mets: Chris Capuano      
  • Oakland A’s: Andrew Bailey, Craig Breslow and Brad Ziegler
  • Philadelphia Phillies: Ben Francisco, Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, and Shane Victorino
  • Pittsburgh Pirates: Joel Hanrahan, Ross Ohlendorf and Garrett Olson
  • San Francisco Giants: Mark DeRosa and Aaron Rowand
