Senior Service Corp Programs

Volunteers of America involves seniors in myriad community service activities through the Senior Service Corp programs. The Senior Service Corp programs, administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, offer seniors volunteer opportunities through its Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs.  RSVP provides opportunities for those over 55 to volunteer in their community in a variety of activities. The Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion program provides volunteer opportunities serving at-risk youth, and enables seniors to provide assistance and companionship to adults who have difficulty with daily living activities.

Several days each week, Margaret Wood works as a receptionist at the Volunteers of America Colorado Branch office in Denver. She is outgoing, hardworking and efficient. She recognizes repeat callers by their voices. She has a keen memory, and can recall details of every incoming message. When she is away from the switchboard, she stays busy stuffing envelopes for fundraising efforts and special events.
