Volunteers of America provides street and mobile outreach services in communities around the country. By engaging homeless youth, families, and mentally ill individuals, we help ensure that America’s most vulnerable citizens have safe and stable housing.

Featured Employee: Hal Miller, A Tireless Advocate for Camden, NJ’s Homeless Population

As an outreach coordinator with Volunteers of America Delaware Valley, Hal Miller knows almost every homeless person in Camden, NJ. While venturing into the woods and abandoned buildings of Camden, he has brought hundreds of them into shelters and has found permanent housing for dozens of others.

Featured Program: Outreach in New York's Airports

Many people don’t realize that homeless people live in our nation’s airports. However, Volunteers of America Greater New York staff understand this problem all too well. That’s why they developed an innovative outreach program at both LaGuardia and Kennedy Airports. Our staff visits the airports, every day, to find homeless persons in need of assistance and work to move them into housing. According to one outreach worker, "'People look at us as life rescuers. That's what I was told once by a lady, 'You save lives.'"
