Featured Program: Public Housing In Louisville

Working with a local judge and the Louisville Housing Authority, Volunteers of America of  created an innovative program that keeps publicly assisted housing tenants in their apartments.  By negotiating with the Housing Authority and with Section 8 landlords, and by making one-time rental payments, Volunteers of America case managers are able to avoid having their clients evicted and being forced to enter emergency homeless shelters.  The program is so successful that it is funded by the Louisville Metro Government and the Louisville Housing Authority.  Why?  Because it’s good for families and it saves money — keeping families in stable housing costs a lot less than assisting them once they become homeless.
