Featured Program: Salt Lake City Homeless Youth Resource Center
Salt Lake City has a large population of runaway and homeless youth, many of who leave rural areas around the mountain west and wind up in the largest big city. These teenagers have often left home due to domestic violence or sexual/emotional abuse, which leaves them distrustful of authority. Others have aged out of foster care after turning 18, and found themselves with no place to go. Recognizing this problem, Volunteers of America of Utah operates the Homeless Youth Resource Center — a safe place for street youth to go where they can have a hot meal, take a shower and receive case management or referrals to housing and other community programs.
