Featured Program: Theodora House

Volunteers of America of Indiana responded to the nearly 96 percent increase in female offenders between 1997 and 2001 by creating Theodora House, an innovative gender specific, evidence-based treatment model to meet the unique needs of women and break the cycle of recidivism.

Theodora House developed a highly professional, multi-disciplinary team approach to assess and treat women.  Many of the residents are single, low-income women who have suffered physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse. Theodora House  is named after the daughter of the founders of Volunteers of America and  builds on the organization’s legacy of over 100 years of service to those who have served their sentence and need assistance to re-enter society. The center houses approximately 80 women in a caring environment where women can learn the skills and regain the confidence necessary to re-enter society as functional and productive members of the community
